What are these?
My son was out in the woods finding mushrooms & came across these huge shells in a rain ditch. They look like huge oyster shells. What could they be,& how did they get here?Is there a creature living in the woods that I don`t know about?
Thanks, driving myself nuts over them. My elderly neighbor told me someone he knows who hunts up here uses these shells to hold gunpowder, glue them together & pour the powder down them. That seems like an awful lot of trouble to carry around these huge things when hunting.phyllis

Wow...what a mystery. I don't know what they're called-but I have a feeling they are far from 'home.'
Praying for ya.
Love, Debra
wow, please update if you do find out what the are...
They are pen shells.I've found them in Maryland and South Carolina on the beach.
Thanks,driving myself nuts over them.
