east tiger swallowtail

I don`t remember if I noticed this before when I`m photographing butterflies. Some of the tiger swallowtails have a big band of blue on them, some don`t.So,in my inquiring state of mind of late,I go searching for why.Well, the males only have a small amt.of blue on them,so that`s the difference between the male & female swallowtail butterfly.
This year the robins have raised quite a few babies. The birds who live here in the woods seem to have formed an alliance together against the hawk.I have not been able to catch a pic of him,but I know when he`s around. The bluejays, robins, crows, even the smaller titmouse gather together ,noisily surrounding him, flying at him, pestering him till he leaves.I go with camera in hand to only catch the tail end of him exiting & flying off.Maybe he should start making a meal out of all the rabbits we have here instead.

You know Phyllis your photos of those butterflies look like a picture book. Thanks for the education. I didn't know that about them. I don't think I have seen them here at The Baggaraggs. We have Gulf Frittaleres and Swallowtails and Julias.I think. hugs, Robin

I wish I knew the names of all the butterflies, but I try to ID most. They seem to like the butterfly bushes the best in the yard. The Joe Pye Weed is about to bloom,I guess then is when I`ll be seeing the orange monarchs, hugs to you, phylliso

Hi Phyllis,
Your photography is fantastic! You must have one special camera to catch a butterfly like that! I am always amazed at God's beauty in Creation. And I hate the way one creature has to watch out for their preditors! Heaven or the new earth will be wonderful so we don't have preditors anymore to cause harm. Thanks for sharing again!

I don't think it's possible to take a better picture of a butterfly than the picture in the middle!
