Red Bellied Woodpecker

The red-bellied woodpecker has been filling up holes in the electrical pole with suet from the feeder.
Also,a picture of the purple finches, hiding in the thicket of briars that I need to get at before the nesting birds arrive.
I`m editing Sun.`s post to place on Stewart`s Wild Bird Wed.To show off your wild birds,go to this link http://paying-ready-attention-gallery.blogspot.com/

Red Bellied Woodpecker with acorn

My super lens died yesterday,I had to get a smaller one,75/300mm.I have my heart set on the 500mm,but I could barely lift it,& it was expensive.I WILL have a longer one in the future if I have to carry my tripod with me.
Anyhow, the few photos I took today did my neck in because the red bellied was so high up in the branches.I wonder if my fracture is healing at all.I won`t know till the first week in Dec.when I return for another xray.

My favorite place to be

Our son is starting the daunting task of clearing up the dead wood from these fallen trees. The ones standing that the woodpeckers are working on will remain however long it takes till they fall to dust.
Thirty years ago I pulled some creeping pine{I`m not sure if that is the correct name of it}from the dh`s parents property & started it down here in the woods where it carpets alot of the forest floor now.
Several native holly bushes have sprung up ,promising berries to come soon.I watched the wildlife this morning & came away with these few pictures,The bluejay looked like a huge parrot to me & he was climbing up & down trees searching for his cache of stored food,I guess,as this red-bellied woodpecker was.

Red Bellied Woodpecker m.carolinus

This is world bird Wed.& this week I have photographed the red bellied woodpecker. The red coloring from his bill to the nape of his neck is red,& that tells me this woodpecker is male.He is lightly shaded pinkish on his breast too.He sits on the electric pole to get a view of the crowded feeder.Luckily I don`t scare the dogs, always on high alert when I grab the camera.Go over to the Springman`s blog to get in on the fun.I will try to provide the link, but we all know how that goes when I try to insert a link...
I had some computer problems this week a certain cat named Simba caused,it is usually Maggie, but she is not to blame this time.
