Dyeing with Kool Aid

I have been so busy lately, but I`ll show you what I did today.I washed mohair from the goats & sheeps wool & played around with dyeing the fiber.I boiled water in the enamelware pot I use for just dyeing, let it cool some & added different colors of kool aid.I put my hot ,wet ,clean fiber into the pot & let it sit about a half hour till all the water was clear.I used a glass to dip down in the pot to see if the water was clear, then I dumped it out.
I used berry blue-which turned a teal-ish blue,I used both wool & mohair together to see what the difference was,the mohair is always so shiny whether it is dyed or not.
The grape & berry blue I put together,& ended up with a charcoal gray, which I didn`t like,so I added a small bit of Greener Shades dye, coral reef color & got another shade of lovely teal green.
The large batches you see here I put a lb.of wool/mohair mixed, it was probably too much to try to dye at once, some is colored good, others aren`t.I put Blackie`s mohair in,it is black, it dyed a pretty dark cherry color.I wish I had more of that shade.I used all different shades for that, tropical punch, black cherry ,maybe even a grape, will have to check again. But,here are the results...I can`t really say that the Greener Shades is the real deal as I mixed it with the kool-aid.I know that the Greener Shades Dye will be much more beautiful just used as it is.I bought a small starter set of that dye,if you belong to the group,Ravelry, you can use your purchase to win things in Oct.

You are such an inspiration! My friend and neighbor, Rosemary, said that a Turkey fryer fired by propane was the best investment she ever made. She dyes outside and uses it for dying. Consider buying one in the future. She prefers dying outside so she doesn't make a mess in her house or stains anything. Many blessings to you dear friend. I love you very much.

Thanks,Becky!I`ve been looking for a better way to dye, that`s why I haven`t tried it much.I can`t wait to get into the Greener Shades Dyes, they are not harmful to the enviroment.
I`m still not getting the network blogging,I don`t see this on my facebook page yet.
I love you too,my dear friend.phylliso

Cool way to dye! What will you make with it? I'd make a KoolAid Scarf. :)

I`ll make a scarf or a hat. There is not enough dyed to make anything else,I don`t believe.
I can`t wait to blend the colors together, the 2 shades of teal I think will blend nicely.phylliso

How very cool! We`ve tie-dyed before but with kits not Kool-Aid. Very clever!

I use to work with a blonde young man that would dye his hair with koolaid, until one time he burned his scalp with it. Don't know what color it was, but he sure kept us amused with his many colors. LOL
