Remembering Max

When D.came to visit this blog,I went over to see her beautiful collie, who looks like he could be Max`s brother. So,I went back & am posting some pics of Max,which I will do from now on I believe,as I feel his presence here with me still.
These were taken after he had his tail taken off,it couldn`t be saved as the cyst he had on there got big quickly after little Dominick stepped on it,& the vet had to remove it.She told me it was benign, but I always wonder as he only lived 2 more years. I feel he blessed my life even though it was for a short 10 years.
He liked to hide in the yard, under bushes, flowers, constantly on guard though, watching. We once had a person trying to elude the police come through here on foot,& I believe Max detered him from coming close to me here in the woods. The guy got away, but I thank God that day for Max as this guy pistol-whipped a couple in their home & was on drugs.
Max is buried here with us,under one of his fav bushes. These photos were in May of 2005 when he was 8.

He was beautiful. Without the tail he looks a bit like an Aussi Shepherd. Thank you for sharing these beautiful pictures with us.

Good Morning Phyllis,

I agree, Max looks very much like he could have been a sibling to my dog. Sergei is my 5th Collie and I still miss all four who have gone before him. Each had their own personality, but all where such loving dogs. One thing I promised them and myself is that when their time came, I would never let them suffer because I couldn't let them go, how could I be so selfish when they were so good and loving to me. It's so hard, but the right thing to do. :( I cherish the time I've had with them.

Hugs
'D'

Thanks for posting Max's picture and a little bit about him. He sure was a fine looking lad. I miss my Jody as well, and now Ariel, my blue merle is beginning to really fail,it will be hard when she goes. Take care,
Tammy

How lucky you were to have Max in your life.

Our lives have been touched by 4 shelties. Each one is special, and I dearly miss the two who are no longer with us.

One of our current shelties, Scooby, had to have her tail removed after an accident. She had to have 3 operations and we were afraid we would loose her.

We say she has a "bunny butt" and it looks just like Max's.

Thank you for sharing memories of your special guy.

Thank you all for your comments.I had another collie,Sadie, who was 14 when she died.I learned something when she was 10,though.She became very ill & I got her to the vet right away.I never had her spaded,as I was young & thought,oh,well, she won`t be bred & won`t be with other dogs,I don`t need to have her spaded.
Well, female dogs can get a womb infection that can cause septsis. The infection spreads all through them. That`s what she had.The vet spade her, telling me she probably wouldn`t survive, but she did & lived happily 4 more years. Now I make sure my dogs are spaded or nuetured, which comes the next question...Hunter is 8,not neen nueutered& is tiny,do I risk having him done now?I will ask the vet to look at his chart. The people who did have him took him to my vet for his shots before we allowed him to move in.phylliso
