My dream of fostering

I have always wanted to foster dogs till they found the perfect home.My friend,Jenn, always told me she felt that I never could as I would not ever want to give a dog up.Well, she was right.

I got a call from friends needing a home for a very LARGE dog right away,& after going over & taking pictures of the dog & facebooking him,I called them right back & said, you know, let`s get the dog & I`ll take care of him till we can find him a proper home,I have a fenced in area,he can run some.I got him today, spent the day with him, drove him to Petsmart for a halter,he is so sweet & I have fallen in love with him.He is labeled as a lab on his vet papers, however he looks just like a vizsla.I love his slobbers,he is a big puppy at 10 mos.old.We put him in his crate tonight to sleep, but he is crying for me as he can see me on the computer..

The problem that I always have is Bandit.Bandit wants to rip him a new face.He is like that with all our new dogs till he accepts their place in our home. It`s just that this dog is so large that if he gets into it with Bandit, things may get out of control for me.What do I do? Buy Bandit a muzzle for now? So,Bucky stays in the kennel tonight in our home & tomorrow I`ll try to figure out what to do.Did I mention I have fallen in love with his sweet big face & slobbery mouth slinging water everywhere when he drinks? He is not sure that he likes men.If they get down to eye level on their knees as I asked the dh & son to do,he rolls over, very submissive, wanting belly rubs. However,a man standing,he does growl some, especially when we are outside. He did not want to let our son indoors while I was on the deck with Buck.I had to take him off & out to the yard to allow my son to come inside. It has not been a day yet,so hopefully in a few days he`ll be more settled in & know who his family is for now.I do know he has decided he is my body guard,lol...

My husband got bloodwork done today, may hear something on it tomorrow,he sees the kidney doc next week & also gets the mammogram & ultasound on his breast next week.

my son was sitting here as Bucky came over, see how afraid he looks?

That's so nice that you took him. He looks so happy to be in a loving home! He'll get used to everyone in a few days, and he'll know who is family.

Gosh Phyllis...I wish you lived closer! We have a stray hound that showed up and I'm sure you'd love him too, as he is a big sweetheart! Ha.... I'm afraid my Dad is falling hard for him, and he is really so young and energetic that he is a bit too much for them. We are looking for his home..hoping hoping. Not sure what will happen if no one steps up. I know my inn is full. Hope your boy settles in nicely once he gets used to things. You may have to be firm with him if he gets too protective. He sure is pretty and a lucky boy.

I could have written this post! :-) But I admire you for opening your heart and home to this boy! I can tell you from experience, that you don't always want to keep them, but there are some that truly do find a way into your heart, and for some as you know, you are just a stepping stone until they find their forever home. You'll know what to do, and Bandit and the rest of your family will let you know too. Good luck--I hope its been a peaceful weekend!!

Sending healing thoughts for your husband!

Our Monty is very aggressive, but we have been able to bring new dogs in the house. Take them out for a loooong walk. We put a halti on Monty during the walk so that we have better control over his head and muzzle. Typically we start with the dogs far apart and as the walk progresses we get closer and closer until I'm walking both of them. This seems to work out really well for us - to the point we just had house-guests-pups for two weeks. Good luck - he looks super sweet and we'd love to hear more about him.
